ALBANY — A new Siena College poll found that a majority of New York voters are in favor of raising taxes on large, profitable corporations and the top 5 percent of earners.
The poll, commissioned by the Invest in Our New York Campaign, found that 67 percent of surveyed residents support the tax increases, including 81 percent of Democrats, 59 percent of independents and 46 percent of Republicans.
The broad support for increasing taxes on the state’s most wealthy comes as Gov. Kathy Hochul has vowed to not increase taxes in her upcoming executive budget proposal. New York is facing a $4 billion deficit in the upcoming year’s budget, with experts saying that state services could face cuts.
