New York’s GOP Congressmembers Slap New Yorkers in the Face

House Republicans advance their budget resolution, which cuts trillions of dollars from Medicaid, SNAP, and more so they can fund tax cuts for the super-rich

After the House Republican Majority voted to advance a budget that benefits billionaires and giant corporations at the expense of working-class people, the Invest in Our New York Campaign released the following statement:

“It should come as no surprise that New York’s House Republicans want to gut their constituents’ healthcare, access to healthy food, high-quality childcare, support services in public schools, and more—all to give billionaires an even bigger tax cut. Representatives Lawler, LaLota, Malliotakis, Stefanik, Tenney, Langworthy, and Garbarino, have just slapped working New Yorkers in the face.

“Gov. Hochul and New York’s state legislative leaders can prevent the complete decimation of vital programs that working-class people rely on every day. Over the past seven years, New York’s billionaires have become $331.8 billion richer, and corporations continue to make astronomical profits. We can combat the federal funding cuts by making the super-rich pay their fair share. But Gov. Hochul is more inclined to tell voters to suck it up rather than invest in their dignity and wellbeing.

"We deserve better from our federal representatives and Governor Hochul—but we aren’t holding our breath. We need Senate and Assembly leadership to fight for New Yorkers by ensuring the ultra-rich pay what they owe in taxes during this budget cycle. This popular policy will bring billions in stable public dollars to our communities, going far beyond   Gov. Hochul’s proposal for working-class families to simply cope with being kicked off Medicaid.”
