NY Budget Talks Poised to Shelve Income, Corporate Tax Hikes

"A coalition of progressive groups called the Invest in Our New York Campaign has pushed for tax increases to fund an expansion of the social safety net. A final budget must include a rejection of Hochul’s proposed curbs on funding for public schools andMedicaid as well as more money for childcare and housing assistance, the group said in a statement after

Heastie’s comments.

'Anything short of that will represent a failure by lawmakers,' the group said in the statement. 'New York’s leaders must take seriously calls from their constituents, a majority of whom support raising taxes on the top 5% and the richest corporations, to hold the ultra-rich accountable and ensure they pay what they owe.'”
